The Self Report Symptom Trap
It's all too common with injured workers following their concussion. Reported symptoms that sound like concussion = Concussion.
What does the research tell us? Up to 25% of athletes, at baseline, report enough symptoms to meet criteria for post-concussive syndrome. The percentage of athletes that report 0 symptoms at baseline? Less than 40%.
It's time to rethink the expectation injured workers should be at 0 symptoms when it's not the standard we see in the best, most conditioned athletes in the world.
